What To Wear

Plus Size Maxi Dresses

Sometimes it’s hard to know just what clothes you need to get you through the summer months, but with some careful shopping several key outfits can last you the summer. A block-coloured maxi dress, free from embellishments or prints, makes it far easier to dress down for the day or up for night with flashy accessories and heels. You’ll get far more wear for your money and more room in your suitcase. Plus size maxi dresses with sleeves give you brilliant, timeless fashion.

Five Ways To Wear A Maxi Dress

Maxi dresses tend to be loose, which is good for larger women, but there are a few things to consider:

  • Go for light, loose fabrics. Jersey dresses or clingy fabrics such as nylon or spandex are a huge no-no (not just for plus sizes!). Choose a maxi that flows nicely over your curves and avoid anything that gathers around problem areas such as your tummy.
  • Always wear a bra. Keep yourself supported. This might mean avoiding plunging necklines or strapless maxis unless you have a really good supportive strapless bra. Wider straps are probably the best style to go for.
  • Don’t be afraid to choose colour or bold prints. Too often larger ladies hide behind a shield of black, but bold prints can actually camouflage lumps and bumps, so do not shy away from them. Bright colours will also give an impression of confidence.
  • For shorter ladies it is probably best to team your maxi with a pair of summer wedges, to elongate your body and add some height. A maxi will actually create this impression on its own but the heels are an extra touch.
  • Do go for shapewear under your maxi (best to avoid in very hot weather).
Shape wear can do wonders for a fuller figure and will create a smooth and
beautifully curved silhouette for your maxi to slip over.
